| A natural artist since birth,
Faria’s propensity for creativity was
encouraged by her parents. Many of her teachers bemoaned the bordering
of their assignments with her drawings, and only a rare few appreciated
the understanding of line and form those “doodles” revealed. Still, her
need to create and practice form and design was unstoppable. Influenced by her culture and family, she learned about bold color choices, unique style, and appreciation of the beauty in everyday things. Evolving as an artist, she explored many diverse mediums as outlets to satisfy her yearning to create. She studied drawing, painting, ceramics, and jewelry making. Taking clues from her Indian background and the growing Americans’ interest in Eastern cultures, she began exploring the ancient art form of ‘Mehendi’, or Henna. Combining her gifts of style and the understanding of line and form and flow, she had finally found the medium that was to become her niche. Henna body art, the practice of applying a natural dye in the form of intricate line drawings to the skin to create complex patterns (which emulate either jewelry or ornate lace, and leave a temporary tattoo-like stain on the skin) was the perfect culmination of all her previous artistic study. Over the course of many years, Faria became a master in the art form, earning her the title “The Henna Goddess” and the renown of fellow artists and international clientele. |
